Napoli have been linked with a move for Javier Mascherano, and amid rumours of a move to Italy, the Barcelona holding-midfielder has praised his former coach Rafa Benitez.
The tough-tackling Argentine international played under Benitez at English giants Liverpool, and has revealed that he still talks to his old boss regularly.
“Moving to Napoli? I can only say that I speak with Benitez often. Almost every day we talk,” he said to Il Mattino.
“I’ve always appreciated him as a coach.”
While there is much speculation that the 29-year-old could move to Italy, it is doubtful that the Blaugrana would want to sell a player who showed such versatility last season playing predominantly as a centre-back.
Mascherano has been at the Nou Camp since moving from Liverpool in 2010 and so far has 138 appearances for the club.
