devis mangia italy under 21The departure of Stuart Pearce from his post as England Under-21 coach has meant that the FA are now on the lookout for his replacement, and one of the names on their shortlist is that of recently departed Italy Under-21 coach Devis Mangia.

After a European Under-21 Championship campaign in which England’s young stars fell somewhat short of expectations, making an exit in the first round, the FA decided against renewing Pearce’s contract.

While senior England technician Roy Hodgson has now resumed Pearce’s responsibilities as interim boss, the FA have taken the unusual step of advertising the position on their official website, and TuttoMercatoWeb reports that Mangia is one of the candidates under consideration.

It is thought to be unlikely however that he would accept another position managing an international side, as one of the reasons he decided against a contract renewal with the Azzurini was that he missed the day to day work of club football.

The 39-year-old has been replaced by former Italy Under-20 boss Luigi Di Biagio.
