Federico Marchetti LazioLazio’s goalkeeper Federico Marchetti is confident that his team can overcome Juventus when the two teams meet to for the Supercoppa Italiana.

Lazio defeated city rival Roma 1-0 in the Coppa Italia final in May and earned the right to face the Serie A champions at the Olimpico on August 18.

“It will be a tough match, as they reinforced with some important buys, but we will play an open game with the conviction we can beat Juventus,” Marchetti said during the club’s press conference on Thursday.

“I see in the eyes of my teammates the real hunger for victory.

“We have the same spirit as last season, the one that took us to lift the Coppa Italia.”

“Now we have to wipe everything we’ve achieved from our memories, as it would be a mistake to suddenly think we’ve become fantastic.”

The former AlbinoLeffe and Cagliari No.1 also spoke of the club’s ambitions for the upcoming season.

“President Claudio Lotito told me he wants to take Lazio back up to the top level and I am convinced we’ll get there.

“Of course this squad is strong, but there are other teams who have also strengthened their ranks, so it will be a great battle.

“We know what our strengths are and where we need to improve, so with that attitude we can fight anyone,” said Marchetti, who made 46 appearances in the Biancocelesti’s goal last season while registering 21 clean sheets.
