Primavera 2013/14: Week One Round-Up

Empoli and Torino both recorded emphatic wins as they have risen quickly to the top of Group A, confirming the summer expectations that both would be sides to keep an eye on this season.

Emmanuel Gyasi and Simone Rosso added to a brace from Mattia Aramu as the Granata thrashed Novara on the road while Empoli took five off of Modena in an emphatic display, Diego Frugoli opening his account for the season with a hat-trick.

Juventus were the team of the season last year and they started as their senior side did this weekend, with a win, beating Spezia 2-1, Simone Pepe scoring and supplying for Matteo Gerbaudo.

Carpi notched a surprise win over Genoa courtesy of a Dallari dead ball while Siena edged out Parma in a 3-2 thriller.

Sampdoria and Cesena battled to a 2-2 draw when a double from Gabriele Moncini pegged back the Blucerchiati despite them having taken a two goal lead after 13 minutes.

In the final game of the group, Sassuolo fell to a 2-0 loss against Leonardo Colucci’s Bologna.

Group B

AC Milan and Udinese were the big victors in Group B as they racked up 4-0 and 6-0 wins against Pescara and Virtus Lanciano respectively.

Victor Da Silva - ChievoPippo Inzaghi’s Primavera charges had all their goals scored by Iacopo Cernigoi while Marco Moras and Emanuele Rovini both bagged braces for the Zebrette.

The youth side everyone always keeps an eye on, Atalanta, triumphed thanks to a lone Gabriel Lunetta goal over Padova as Varese won 2-0 against Cagliari.

Inter, led by a returning Diego Milito, battled back from two down to draw 2-2 against Brescia in a Lombardy derby while Chievo got off to a winning start away to Ternana, main man Victor Da Silva getting both goals in a 2-1 win.

Hellas stormed to a 3-0 victory over Cittadella as yet another side won away from their home ground and after Pasquale Mazzocchi opened the scoring, it never looked in doubt.

Group C

Like the previous groups, there were some big scores that caught the eye in Group C as Roma blitzed Crotone 7-1 while a strong Napoli side were battered by an in-form Lazio, 5-1 the score in the capital.

Cedric Nijki Tchoutou was the main man for the Giallorossi as he hit a hat-trick while summer signing from Lecce Francesco Di Mariano also got himself on the scoresheet.

The Partenopei may be a good side but it is a mark of just how far Lazio continue to come that they beat them by such a large margin as the Italian champions had doubles from Luca Crecco and Simone Palombi and a Balde Diao Keita goal to thank for the win.

Palermo, a surprise package last season, were on the wrong end of a heavy defeat as Fiorentina put four past them with only one coming in reply, Federico Bernardeschi starring and scoring twice.

New club Latina were given a harsh introduction to life by Livorno who won 4-1 with Matteo Frati scoring twice for the Amaranto in front of an impressive crowd of 1,000.

Juve Stabia trounced Avellino 3-0 thanks to three goals inside the final 20 minutes while Reggina were also victorious, beating Trapani 2-0.

Francesco Di Grazia got the only goal of the game for Catania as they look to continue their fine form from last year by beating Bari.
