Arsenal are close to officially signing Palermo shot-stopper Emiliano Viviano on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season. Emiliano Viviano

With the arrival of Stefano Sorrentino to Sicily this summer, Viviano was always going to be linked with a move away from the club, however, speculation remained rampant over where he would be headed.

Sky Sport reports that Viviano has passed his medical and is ready to join the Gunners for the rest of the season with a €6 million option to buy.

Arsenal have been linked to a goalkeeper after rumours surfaced that current Arsenal number one Wojciech Szczesny was not convincing enough in his role as a starter.

Vivano had spent last season on loan with his boyhood club Fiorentina, however, they declined to purchase his contract in full for €7.5m.

The 27-year-old is expected to compete with Szczesny for a spot in the starting XI.

Viviano is Arsenal’s second signing on the last day of the transfer window, joining Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil at the Emirates.
