Callejon – Napoli

Napoli forward Jose Callejon has revealed that he’s used to being part of the club now and admitted that Naples is much different from Madrid.

The Partenopei signed the 26-year-old from Real Madrid this summer for a fee of around €10 million and the player is happy to be playing in Italy, though he didn’t want to leave Spain at first.

Callejon spoke to Abc.es about his transition to playing at Napoli and why he chose to leave Los Blancos, with coach Rafa Benitez being one of the deciding factors.

“It was complicated in the beginning when I first arrived in Italy,” said the Spaniard, as reported by Tuttonapoli.net.

“It’s hard to leave a wonderful city and the best team in the world for an experience outside of your country.

“Naples is a small coastline city with a lot of traffic, where everyone almost knows everyone else, which is nothing like Madrid.

“However, after three months, I’m used to living here, to the team, and to my friends.

“Plus I’m lucky to have my partner here with her daughter and it’s helping me a lot.

“Why did I leave Real? Even though I played a few minutes, it wasn’t consistently, but the decision was still tough.

“Leaving was a leap forward in my career, although I had to leave the club of my life, which will always be in my heart.

“My love for football has exceeded that of Real Madrid.

“Rafa had called me several times describing a new plan in a club where he behaved very well for years.

“It’s given me confidence and made me realise that I had the minutes I was looking for.

“I had so many offers. I may have not wanted to leave Spain, but at the moment I can say that I wasn’t wrong to leave.”
