Ex-Arsenal forward Gervinho: I’m at Roma because Wenger didn’t trust in me

Roma forward Gervinho has claimed that his summer move to the Stadio Olimpico was a result of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s lack of trust in him.

The 26-year-old left North London to join the Giallorossi last month in a deal worth around €9.5 million after what was a largely disappointing spell in the Premier League.

Gervinho scored just 11 goals in 63 appearances for the Gunners, but claims that part of the reason he didn’t replicate the form he showed at Lille was because Wenger continually played him out of position.

“I wasn’t playing the best football, and with [Arsene] Wenger I wasn’t growing,” Gervinho told Sun Sport.

“I wasn’t happy with him, he made me play as a winger. He should have had more trust in me.”

The Ivorian striker moved to Arsenal from Lille in 2011 after impressing for the Ligue 1 club, and has now been reunited with former coach Rudi Garcia who he worked with during his time in France.
