Manuel Pasqual ItalyFiorentina midfielder Manuel Pasqual has undergone further treatment following the serious head injury he suffered during Italy’s 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic on September 10.

The 31-year-old was hospitalised during the World Cup qualifier after he caught an elbow from Czech striker Libor Kozak in what was his first international appearance in nearly seven years.

The Viola captain visited a private clinic in Florence on Thursday in order to receive a further 50 stitches that are expected to help minimise the scarring to his forehead.

Italy’s medical staff confirmed that Pasqual’s wound was directly over an artery so he had to be anesthetized in the change room in order to stabilise his condition before he was moved to hospital.

It has been suggested that the player may wear a protective helmet in the future while he recovers from the injury.

As as result of the latest stitches it is highly unlikely that Pasqual will be ready for Fiorentina’s fixture against Cagliari on Sunday meaning Marcos Alonso could be set for his first league start with the club.
