Genoa/Allievi Nazionali-Allievi Regionali (Amichevole)Genoa coach Fabio Liverani failed to attend his post match press conference following his side’s 5-2 defeat to Fiorentina, with reports growing he could be sacked.

The 37-year-old reportedly met with Grifone president Enrico Preziosi and director of sport Daniele Delli Carri after the game to discuss matters, with Rossoblu captain Daniele Portanova facing the media in his place.

“[Fabio] Liverani? It’s right that the president and the coach should meet after certain results,” he stated.

“The president must have some certainties and the boss is providing them.”

Francesco Lodi and several other Genoa players were unhappy with Viola striker Mario Gomez’s excessive celebrations after scoring a late penalty for the Gigliati, labelling his reaction as disrespectful.

“[Mario] Gomez is a great champion,” Portanova continued.

“He made some gestures which upset the fans in the Curva, but he has apologised so that’s the end of it.”

The Grifone’s next fixture is the first Derby della Lanterna of the season away to Sampdoria on September 15, and Portanova is pleased that it is being played so early in the season.

“The derby? It’s a good thing that it’s coming so soon, we have the opportunity to make everyone believe in us again.”
