Luigi Di BiagioItaly Under-21 coach Luigi Di Biagio has admitted that his squad must improve after their loss to Belgium on Thursday.

The Azzurrini lost 3-1 to Belgium in their 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier despite the Italians holding a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half thanks to a goal from Cristian Battocchio.

Di Biagio spoke to Rai after the defeat and insisted that Italy gave their all despite the result.

“We knew we were facing a good team and they proved that,” said the tactician.

“Belgium had something more than us. The boys gave their all, but we have to go over a few things.

“We insist that as of tomorrow we will understand the mistakes that have been made.

“At times throughout the match we did positive things, but then we stretched and this shouldn’t happen.”

The Azzurrini finished second in the 2013 European Under-21 Championship under former coach Devis Mangia, who was replaced by Di Biagio this summer.
