Claudio Lotito has insisted that Lazio were better off missing out on the signing of Galatasaray forward Burak Yilmaz.

With the deal breaking down over an inability to agree the finances for a deal Lotito indicated that the Turkish international would have caused similar disruption as Mauro Zarate had and the club were now focused on investing in youth.

“Do I regret the failure to sign Yilmaz? I’m convinced more than ever that it was better that way,” Lotito told Lalaziosiamonoi.

“He was not a player who could stay at Lazio, Zarate do not want a second.

“We want to keep all the players that we consider suitable to increase the potential of the team, I do not think the company will be subtracted from making investments.

“I believe that the international market is leaning towards young players, you search for the additions unlike in the past.

“Look at AC Milan, they took [Stephan] El Shaarawy and debuted him.

“We have a number of young people, ranking the highest in the Primavera, there are young people that will debut in the first team, we have focused around the future.

“Keita [Balde] at the appropriate time will demonstrate his qualities. We’ll also see [Brayan] Perea.

“We brought the players who nobody knew, now they are a phenomena.”
