Manchester United’s Italian forward Federico Macheda has agree to join English Championship side Doncaster Rovers on loan.

The 22-year-old, who was seen attending the Vikings’ game at Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon, has made the move for an initial month, with an option to extend the deal.

ManUtd.com revealed the transfer, with DoncasterRoversFC.co.uk clarifying that the youngster had been training with the side on Sunday and Monday ahead of their match at Gianfranco Zola’s Watford on Tuesday night.

After joining the Red Devils from Lazio aged just 16, Macheda burst into the limelight with a winning goal for United against Aston Villa as a 17 year old.

Following his initial flush of success, his development has continued with a number of loan moves. The Rome-born hitman had a spell with Sampdoria in January 2011, but declined to stay with the Blucerchiati after their relegation to Serie B.

This was followed by an injury-curtailed stint at Queen’s Park Rangers, before spending the end of the 2012/13 season in Germany with Stuttgart, failing to score in his fourteen appearances at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Macheda has also appeared for Italy at a number of youth levels, scoring four times for the Under-21 side in ten appearances.
