Manchester United striker would prefer Lazio return

Looking surplus to requirements at Manchester United Federico Macheda could be set for a return to former club Lazio, with the Italian youngster admitting that it could well be the best option for him as he slips down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

After recently being allowed to exit the club on loan to Doncaster Rovers the 22-year-old scored two goals on his first start for the club the Roman native stated his preference for a return to the city of his birth.

“A return to Lazio? As for any fan it would be the best for me,” Macheda told Calciomercato.it.

After being taken from the Biancocelesti youth ranks the youngster burst onto the Premier League scene towards the end of the 2008-09 season as his goals helped United to the title, however, since then his career as stalled somewhat, punctuated with other loan spells at Sampdoria, Queens Park Rangers and Stuttgart.

Even if the Premier League club decide not to renew the Italian’s contract went it expires in June the striker will still be aware that he must continue his current form with the second tier side if the Aquile that he can still succeed in Serie A.
