After previous reports of their interest in disgraced Valencia defender Adil Rami it has been suggested that Napoli will approach the Spanish club in January to propose an exchange with Federico Fernandez for the French international.

The fomer Lille centre-back made a controversial outburst against coach Miroslav Dukic on local radio and is unlikely to appear for the La Liga side again under his stewardship.

Despite failing to secure a permanent first-team place since joining the Partenopei from Estuadiantes in July 2011 Iberian newspaper Levante have reported that the Argentinean is still highly regarded in his homeland and Spain.

With his value still high in La Liga Aurelio De Laurentiis hopes the offer the 24-year-old Argentinean international will be enough to beat off competition from several Premier League clubs for Rami’s signature.

Out of favour with Walter Mazzarri last season Fernandez joined Spanish club Getafe on loan for the second half of the campaign making 14 appearances and scoring once.
