Abel Hernandez - PalermoPalermo sporting director Giorgio Perinetti has insisted that although he understood why striker Abel Hernandez and his representatives attempted to negotiate his exit from the Rosanero he had to ensure that any deal was beneficial for the club.

Despite concerns that playing in Serie B this season will affect his World Cup chances he stated his belief that if the Uruguayan can help Palermo to promotion this year the 23-year-old will retain his place in the national squad.

“I think he was doing what needed to be done,” Perinetti told Tuttomercatoweb.

“The result was determined by the value of the summer market. We closed in the black, but it was a necessary thing because the demotion to Palermo has cost a lot.

“To judge so many new players and a new team takes time, especially in light of injuries. The squad is equipped for the challenge that we have set.

“For a month I have said that Hernandez and [Stefano] Sorrentino we never offered. Then with every passing hour approaching Hernandez [could not leave] Palermo because it was impossible to do an operation so important in a few days.

“We did not have the right subjects to replace him with adequately.

“He is a young boy, his agents have made every effort to promote the sale. Now, however, after the disappointment at the lack of a transfer to Serie A the player will have to understand that it was not fair that in this operation that they would have gained all but not Palermo, especially from the technical point of view.

“Doing well here can see him safely participate in the World Cup with Uruguay.”
