Sannino - ChievoChievo coach Giuseppe Sannino was happy with his side’s performance in the first half of their 4-2 defeat against Napoli on Saturday night, but conceded that there was a visible difference in quality between the two teams after the break.

Azzurri captain Marek Hamsik and Jose Callejon scored for the visitors while Alberto Paloschi pegged them back twice before half time. After the interval however, Napoli stamped their authority on the game with Hamsik adding his second and Gonzalo Higuain rounding off the scoring.

“In the first half we played very well, after the break maybe we were a bit less aggressive,” he told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

“We have a group of lads that know where they did well and not so well. This is the result and we have to accept it. We gifted Napoli three of their goals.

“We saw a second half different to the first. We competed during a half in which we gave Napoli difficulties. There were two teams on the pitch with a great difference in technical ability.”

Despite the Flying Donkeys’ defeat, young striker Paloschi was one of the positives for the home team, scoring an impressive brace.

“I believe he [ Paloschi] would have been happier if his goals had helped move Chievo up in the classifications,” Sannino continued.

“Personally I’m happy for him, [Cyril] Thereau did what he had to do. In the first half we created chances for ourselves.”

Finally turning his attentions to the transfer market, Sannino claimed he couldn’t wait for the window to close.

“We want the market to close as soon as possible. The club definitely knows where they can improve the squad, without forgetting that [Marcelo] Estigarribia and [Alessandro] Bernardini have arrived.

“Our Scudetto is in steering clear of relegation. I’m very happy with this group, we’ll see what happens in the next two days.”

Chievo’s next fixture in Serie A is away to Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on September 15, when they’ll be looking to bounce back from their home defeat to Napoli.
