Reports suggest that Inter owner-to-be Erick Thohir wants to replace sporting director Marco Branca with Atalanta’s general manager, Pierpaolo Marino.

Thohir is expected to sign an agreement to become the majority shareholder of the Nerazzurri at some point before Tuesday, and rumours in the media claim that Branca – whose transfer policy was criticised last season – is not in the Indonesian’s plans.

According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, Thohir is considering the possible arrival of Marino, who has acquired a reputation as an intelligent operator on the transfer market during his time at Atalanta and, previously, Napoli.

The 59-year-old helped rebuild the Partenopei into a force competing for European qualification from 2004 to 2009, with signings such as Marek Hamsik and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Another candidate for the role is Leonardo. The Brazilian was Inter coach for the second half of the 2010/11 season, but then left to become sporting director at Paris Saint-Germain. However, he resigned from the French team in the summer.
