Japanese playmaker Keisuke Honda has reportedly agreed a January move to AC Milan, reports in France suggest.

The Japanese No.10 has been a long-term target for the Rossoneri after they failed to agree a transfer fee with his current employers CSKA Moscow in the previous summer transfer window. However, with Honda’s contract set to expire on December 31, he is available on a free transfer in the new year.

L’Equipe is reporting that Honda met Milan club president Silvio Berlusconi to agree a four and a half year contract which will come into effect from this January upon his arrival at the club.

The 27-year-old will be expected to compete with Kaká and Riccardo Montolivo for a place at the top of Milan’s midfield.

Honda joined CSKA in 2010 for a reported fee of €six million, going on to make 88 appearances and scoring 20 goals for the Russian side. He has featured regularly for the Japanese national side gaining 48 caps and helping them qualify for the upcoming 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.
