Cagliari president Massimo Cellino believes that the situation regarding the club’s home stadium is the reason for their slow start to the season.

The Rossoblu have been playing their home games at the Stadio Nereo Rocco for some time now, as their regular venue, the Stadio Is Arenas, has been closed for the time being due to unsafe conditions.

As a result the club are set to return to the Stadio Sant’Elia later this month.

Cellino spoke to L’Unione Sarda and admitted that he’s shamed by the current stadium situation and feels for the players.

“The guys have put their hearts and souls into the games,” said the Isolani chief. “But now their morale is in pieces.

“And that’s because of the stadium issue.

“Every time I speak with the players, I look down at the floor. I cannot look them in the eyes, because I feel like a cheat.”

Cagliari are currently in 14th place on the Serie A table and have only been victorious once this season, to go along with four draws and two losses thus far.
