It wasn’t meant to happen like this, Frosinone admittedly are in great form but the top of the table clash against Pontedera was surely supposed to have a different ending.

Venezia continue their rise as they shake off their tag as outsiders for the title and even more surprisingly Lecce have point number two. Beating all of this however, Barletta have finally scored, in fact twice on the seventh time of asking. It has goals, its unusual and always entertaining it could only be Lega Pro.

The main game of the weekend was the afore mentioned top of the table clash between Frosinone and Pontedera. Pontedera were looking to remain on the top of the table but it was the home side who started the brightest. The opening minutes passed with a penalty shout to the home side and a few ranging shots from either side but the game really came to life in the 19th minute when Daniel Ciofani headed in after a good cross in from the left.

The closing down and the marking as terrible but surely the away side would learn from this? Possibly not as moments later a set piece was poorly cleared and when the return ball as played in Altobelli (no not that one) pounced to make it two. The third was not long coming and on the stroke of half time German born Davis Curiale headed in from, guess what? A cross from the left, whatever happened to once bitten? The second half went from bad to worse for the visitor after Danilo Soddimo stroked home a penalty and it was Cuirale who grabbed the fifth with a delightful chip over the keeper. Frosinone go top and look good for it.

Elsewhere in Girone B Lecce and Gubbio played out a 1-1 draw meaning that the home sides season isn’t completely pointless. Pisa continues to improve as they move up to second after hammering Paganese. Nocerina fell to the foot of the table after taking a 4-0 away battering to Prato, this means the away side have conceded 21 goals in only eight games. Finally poor Barletta who had not scored all season finally broke their duck when Allegretti and Picci bagged one each to finally give the crowd something to cheer about, albeit there was only 1,500 of them and most had probably left by the time Picci scored in the 93rd.

Grione A also changed league leaders as Virtus Entella beat Sudtirol 1-2 in an enthralling game. Sudtirol who featured last week against Venezia on this review play some expansive and exciting football that is only hampered by the results. Just under 1,000 celebrated in the Stadio Marco Druso as after only eight minutes the home side scored. The initial shot was parried but the defence inexplicably left the ball for each other and three players then had to watch as Campo pounced to finish it off. Virtus Entella certainly don’t know when they are beaten and today was no exception, they weathered the storm as Sudtirol hammered at the door.

The second half as no exception but the more chances the home side missed the more it looked like Virtus could snatch something. Football is a cruel game and this was proved when it was Mattia Marchi and ex-Sudtirol player who looped a header over the despairing keeper. The final indignity came with two minutes to go when Vincenzo Sarno’s wasn’t held by Micai and the poor keeper saw the ball go through his hands into the net.

Grione A saw Cremonese continue their good form with a good home win against Lumezzane this taking them up to second. Pro Vercelli failed to capitalise when they played by the lake only drawing 0-0 with Como whilst Venezia’s 1-0 win away at Carrarese sees them continue to sneak up the table. The Monday night game saw Reggiana go down 2-3 to an ever improving Albinoleffe whilst Pavia drew 1-1 with FeralpiSalò.

The title races are hotting up now and gradually you can see teams taking positions that they may occupy at the end of the season. The problem is however, that this is Lega Pro and that means that teams are only one minute away from a red card, goalkeeping error, defensive mistake or incredible goal and it is these things that can change everything.
