Rossi - Fiorentina

Former Napoli director Pierpaolo Marino has stated that Fiorentina star Giuseppe Rossi almost joined the Partenopei but a move was blocked by the player’s family.

The Italian international has been a revelation for the Viola so far this season, but the 59-year-old revealed that things could have turned out very differently had it not been for Rossi’s family.

“We had talks for Pepito Rossi when I was still at Napoli,” Marino told Marte Sport Live.

“At that time his agents told us that the player’s family did not think that Napoli was the ideal place for him.

“He has always been liked by president Aurelio De Laurentiis, just as he has always been liked by me.”

Marino, who is now the director general at Atalanta, also commented on Orobici stars Luca Cigarini and German Denis and their past with the Azzurri.

“Cigarini and Denis are pillars of our team. It is up to the critics to say if they would have been useful to the Napoli of today.
