Lecce striker Fabrizio Miccoli has revealed his admiration for Napoli legend Diego Maradona.
The 34-year-old, who moved to the Salentini from Palermo over the summer, has admitted that he’s idolised the controversial former star attacker for quite some time and claims that they have a lot in common.
Miccoli spoke to television show Lucignolo 2.0 on Italia 1 and praised the Argentine for the qualities he possessed both on and off the pitch.
“I have Che Guevara tattooed on me because I had seen it on Maradona,” said the Lecce captain. “But I didn’t know who Che Guevara was.
“At home I have an earring of his that I bought at an auction. I hope that Equitalia don’t come to take it, as I’d miss it.
“I’ll never speak badly of him, as a player or a person. He’ll say things to your face without holding back.
“We’re similar, as we are both real and sincere.
“His umbrella gesture on Rai? That’s the true Maradona, having a laugh with the gesture.
“Diego is a very nice and helpful person. My son, not surprisingly, is named Diego.”
Diego Maradona is currently involved in an ongoing dispute with Italian tax authorities, as he reportedly owes around €38 million in taxes dating back from his time in Naples.
