Genoa captain Daniele Portanova has expressed his pleasure at the Grifone fans considered among the best in Italy during a recent survey and insists that the squad will be better prepared for their next match with Chievo.

The 34-year-old centre-back admitted that the team will benefit from the time the international break has afforded new coach Gian Piero Gasperini with the squad and is under no illusions that they must beat the Flying Donkeys next Sunday.

“We do everything for this shirt and for this club, the oldest in Italy and with an incredible story,” Portanova told the club’s official website.

“And I was not surprised to see, in that survey, our supporters listed among the best.”

“Compared to match in Sicily [against Catania], we have more time to prepare for the next with Chievo.

“It is going to be a different game in some ways, because, at a guess, we will have to win it.

“The task does not scare us, we’ll be ready.”
