Luigi Di BiagioItaly U21 coach Luigi Di Biagio says his team should have played better against Serbia after a 1-0 defeat.

Goran Causic’s goal on the hour mark was the difference between the two sides in a result which sees The Azzurrini fall one point behind Serbia.

“We should’ve played better, as we knew what awaited us. We tried to the end, but in a disorganised manner and didn’t get the right passing manoeuvres,” Di Biagio told Rai Sport.

“I certainly couldn’t have asked for more of an effort from my players, as they pushed to the final whistle, but we have to admit Serbia played better.”

The Azzurrini languish in third spot after the defeat with table toppers Belgium four points clear, but the deficit can be narrowed down to a point if Di Biagio’s men can take advantage of their game in hand.
