Gian Piero Gasperini claims he’s surprised by the recent form of his Genoa side after their third consecutive win.

The Grifone were victorious over Hellas Verona over the weekend after recovering from a poor start to the season under Fabio Liverani.

“It was a surprise to me,” he told the Genoa’s official website. “But 13 points from six games is a nice amount.

“I honestly did not expect to come here and find such a compact group – they have given everything.”

Daniele Portanova and Juraj Kucka were on the score sheet to ensure the Grifone took all three points.

“The credit has to go to the players,” the tactician continued.

“We have to look forward now and learn from what we have done. This is an opportunity for us.

“We have to take advantage of the international break, and prepare to give more on the pitch.”
