Javier Zanetti has spoken of his emotional return to first team action with Inter after seven months out with a serious injury.

The 40-year old made his return to the club on Saturday after damaging his Achilles tendon back in April.

“The match was full of great emotions,” he told Italia 1.

“After all the time I’d spent away from the action, I was dreaming of a night like that, with my return made sweeter by the support of the fans, my teammates and the president.

“Moratti and I gave each other a big hug at the end of the game – our relationship goes beyond simply captain and president.

“After the match he too was happy about my comeback, it was an emotional night for both of us.”

The Inter legend came on for the last 10 minutes of their 2-0 win over Livorno at San Siro.

He also commented on the competiveness of Serie A this season and how he hope Inter will perform.

“The aim with Inter is to go back to challenging and that’s what we’re doing now,” he said.

“The Italian League is very difficult, there are a lot of teams competing for the same targets, but we’re working well and we want to fight for something significant.”
