Inter defender Yuto Nagatomo has been named Asian International Player of the Year for 2013.

The Japan international won the accolade ahead of Samurai Blue team-mate and CSKA Moscow midfielder Keisuke Honda and Korea Republic international Son Heung-min.

The Asian Football Confederation website reports that the 27-year-old won the award following a series of impressive displays for the Nerazzurri this season as well as several eye-catching performances for Japan during the Confederations Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

The wingback is the second Japanese recipient of the Asian International Player of the Year award, following in the footsteps of international team-mate and winner of the inaugural accolade Shinji Kagawa.

Nagatomo began his professional career at FC Tokyo before moving to Cesena in 2010.

He then joined Inter in January 2011 on an initial loan deal before signing on a permanent deal at the end of the 2010-11 season.
