Genoa midfielder Matuzalem has revealed that the club is concentrated on landing their 500th win in Serie A competition.

The Rossoblu, who currently sit in seventh place on the league table, are finding their form after a rocky start to the season, as they’re unbeaten in their past four games and now have a record of five wins, three draws and five losses.

Matuzalem spoke to the Grifone’s official website about the team’s progress and admitted that they’re focused on remaining in Italy’s top league.

“We’re experiencing an extraordinary period, it’s important to provide continuity,” said the 33-year-old.

“Our goal is to reach salvation points as soon as possible, it would be out of place to talk about anything else.

“We remain scorched from suffering last season, but the experience teaches us. We’ll wait until further on before we see the possibility of cultivating different ambitions and we’ll make further assessments, as now is too early to do so.

“There’s a goal that we would like to make a priority and that’s having Genoa reach its 500th victory in Serie A in a single round.

“Even if it’s limiting not to consider the preceding periods, we see the history and the role that this club has played since the beginning of football.

“I didn’t expect our season to start the way it did. If I succeed to play well, it’s a merit of my team-mates also, as we’re all working as a whole for the good of Genoa.”
