Fabian ScharJuventus and Napoli target, Basel’s Swiss international centre-back Fabian Schar, is reportedly nearing his exit from St. Jakob-Park as Borussia Monchengladbach emerge as frontrunners for his signature.

The German club are in talks with Basel to lure the prospect away from Switzerland and into the Bundesliga.

According to Infoticker.ch, the 21-year-old defender had been of transfer interest to Borussia Dortmund in the recent past, but last season’s Champions League finalists seem to have pulled out of the race for the youngster.

Schar has been at Basel since 2012 following his transfer from his youth club Wil. In 28 appearances for FCB, the defender has scored six goals thus far.

However, his performances on the international stage have raised many eyebrows as the youngster has scored crucial goals in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualification process to help the Swiss sit pretty atop UEFA’s Group E.
