Mertens - Napoli

Napoli winger Dries Mertens has stated that he is hoping to play with continuity for the Azzurri as he looks to make Belgium’s World Cup squad next summer.

Rafa Benitez has mainly used the former PSV Eindhoven man as a winger in his rotation system with Jose Callejon and Lorenzo Insigne, but the youngster is hopeful he can make the position his to lose.

“It is important for me to play with continuity, especially with the World Cup on the horizon,” Mertens told Belgium newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.

“My teammates are players of the highest quality, but there will be many games to play and I am certain there will be space for all of us.”

The 26-year old summer arrival has played 15 official matches for the Azzurri so far this season but only managed to fulfil the total 90 minutes on two occasions.
