Real Madrid defender reluctant over Benitez reunion

After speculation linking Real Madrid’s Alvaro Arbeloa with a move to Serie A side Napoli, reports in Italy are suggesting that the defender is reluctant to leave the Spanish capital despite the opportunity to reunite with his former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez.

Several of the 30-year-olds former teammates have already made the switch to Naples this summer, with Gonzalo Higuain, Raul Albiol and Jose Callejon proving fundamental to the sides positive early season form that also sees them closing in on the knock-out stages of the Champions League.

However, despite the chance to work under the man who arguable reignited his career after a difficult spell with Deportivo La Coruna, TuttoNapoli have reported that any move for the Spaniard will be almost impossible due to his determination to honour his three-year contract.

After beginning his career with Madrid Arbeloa was signed by Benitez in January 2007 and after impressing for Premier League club made his Spanish international debut just over a year later, going on to become a double European champion and World Cup winner in 2010.
