AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has stated that it is vital that his side secure three points when they face Genoa at the San Siro on Saturday night as they look to start climbing their way back up the Serie A table.

However, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side will travel to Milan confident they can inflict more pain on a stuttering Rossoneri after themselves recovering from a difficult start to the season that saw the departure of former coach Fabio Liverani.

“We need to take the three points because we are far behind in the standings,” Allegri told Tuttomercatoweb.

“We must focus and concentrate against a team with players of good level and better organised thanks to Gasperini.

“There are seven games before the break, and we must pick ourselves up all the way in both the league and the Champions League. Tomorrow will be the most important one because we have not won in Serie A for so long.

We need the motivation to create more points. With the three points tomorrow we will also face the Champions League with a higher self-esteem.

“We have 13 points, we must remedy this negative return. We have to look reality in the face and the ranking: Every opponent is tough.

“It requires an especially great performance at a mental level, we cannot make mistakes. Every mistake we commit we pay dearly for.

“What do I expect more than the last few games? Victory, because only with a win are we able to see things in a better, more positive light.

The Chievo match would have been enhanced if we won but that was not the case. The result affects the opinion of all. We need a team performance because it is the collective that enhance the quality of the individual.”

With criticism pouring in from many of the Rossoneri’s former players the 46-year-old insisted that it does not bother him in the same as the politic infighting the club has experienced.

“They do not bother me. In life there are cycles and this is the fourth year for me,” he continued.

“It is normal that no coach is permanent. Nowadays there are young people who may aspire to coach the great teams.

“Life is cyclical. [Filippo] Inzaghi is doing well with the Primavera, and [Clarence] Seedorf is still playing.

“Then In Italy there are so many other young coaches who will have to compete with the big teams if they are to be selected.

“The club issues do not concern me or the team. We must think only of the league to make sure that everything will be OK.

“Let us not forget that Milan is still the most successful club in the world and everyone will work because it continues to be.”
