AC Milan defender Cristian Zapata has dismissed reports linking him with a move to Manchester United by stating he is currently happy at the Rossoneri and wants to remain at the club.

The Colombian defender joined the Italian giants on loan in the summer of 2012 from Villarreal and was signed as a replacement for Thiago Silva who joined Paris Saint Germain.

After making the move permanent in 2013, Zapata has caught the attention of the English champions after his performances in Milan’s dismal season to date.

According to reports coming in from Sky Sports, manager David Moyes is looking to help turn his club’s form around this season by eyeing fresh defensive reinforcements for January including Zapata who is on the Red Devils’ radar as a potential target after he sent coach Phil Neville to scout the defender’s recent performances of-late including a Champions League match against Ajax.

When asked about the speculation over the Old Trafford links, the 27-year-old claimed: “I do not know anything [about a potential move to Manchester United],” while speaking on Italian TV.

“I am just thinking about Milan. I have a contract until 2016 and I want to stay here.”

Zapata has previously revealed that he refused the chance to play in the Premier League in 2011 by opting to sign with Villarreal and turning down a switch to English club Liverpool.

Since his transfer to the San Siro side, Zapata has made 53 appearances and scored three times in all competitions.
