Giuseppe Sannino is expected to be unveiled as the new coach of English Championship side Watford following the departure of Gianfranco Zola.

Zola, who took over in July 2012, resigned on Monday with the club lying 13th in the Championship table having lost their last five home games.

56-year-old Sannino was sacked by Chievo in November having only taken over at the start of the season and has confirmed he has already been contacted regarding the Vicarage Road post.

“Me to Watford? I don’t want to say too much, but there has been some contact and soon I will fly to England to analyse things and to understand if something can be born,” said the former Palermo and Siena coach, speaking to Radio Sportiva.

Sannino would become the second consecutive Italian coach of Watford since the club was purchased by the Italian Pozzo family, who also own Serie A side Udinese and La Liga side Granada.
