Gonzalo Higuain has stated his disbelief after his Napoli were eliminated from the Champions League.
The Azzurri beat Arsenal 2-0 and finished on 12 points along with Borussia Dortmund and the Gunners but were eliminated as they did not beat the English league leaders by three clear goals, given the German side managed a 2-1 win over Marseille.
“We didn’t get anything wrong,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “We had 12 points, just like Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund, but still went out. It’s the first time a team has done so well in the group stage and still gone out.”
“It’s bizarre that we have been eliminated with 12 points when some teams can go through with just one victory.
“Tonight we beat the Premier League leaders with a fine performance, played better than Arsenal, and I am very happy with how the team played.”
Napoli will now drop into the Europa League round of 32 after they finished third in their group.
