Zanetti – Inter

Inter defender Javier Zanetti doesn’t see himself following a path into coaching when he retires from the game.

The 40-year-old has been an Inter player since 1995 and was named captain of the side in 1999. The right wingback tore his Achilles tendon earlier in the year but has returned to action for Inter against Livorno on November 9.

“I don’t see myself as a coach,” Zanetti told L’Equipe, a French newspaper.

“I am now just focusing on ending this season as best I can, then I’ll calmly think about what to do in future.

“Today my ambition is just to be of use and another option for my team. I don’t know what I’ll do in future, but I have always said I’d like to remain within the Inter family.

“I think that when the moment comes, I will know what to do.”

The Argentine international is expected to join the board of directors at Inter when he does decide to hang up his boots.

He last played for his country in 2011. Argentina has been drawn in Group F and will play Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iran and Nigeria. Zanetti is not expected to make the roster.
