Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has announced that his team must reduce its size, in order to buy players in the January transfer window.

The Nerazzurri are currently fourth in Serie A, four points behind Napoli and only one point ahead of Fiorentina on fifth.

”We started with a slightly bigger squad, as we preferred to have two or three extra players,” Ausilio told Sky Sport Italia.

“As we’ve got so many players, we might think about trimming the squad in January before we consider bringing anyone in, and we’ll need to let a few go.”

Inter did sign Ishak Belfodil and Mauro Icardi last summer though they have both yet to have a massive impact on the club. Ausilio however thinks that the players will grow in the future and they have great promise.

“Belfodil is improving, he’s working well,” Ausilio stated. “We think he’s at his best as a support striker.

“He had to play centre-forward against Trapani, that perhaps wasn’t the ideal situation for him but he still did very well.

“He’s young, he’s applying himself and has great quality. We often forget just how young some of the guys are, like him, Mateo Kovacic and Saphir Taider.

“But I’m sure that with time they will come on, as has happened with Ricky Alvarez recently for example.

“Icardi? Let’s forget his tweets, we’ll just focus on Icardi the footballer and he’s working very hard to come back.”

Rumours have linked West Ham United with Diego Milito and Barcelona are thought to be quite keen on Fredy Guarin, while Chelsea are said to want Inter’s centre back Andre Ranocchia.

The Nerazzurri themselves have been paired with a few players, including Stevan Jovetic and Matija Nastasic of Manchester City.
