Inter and Sampdoria drew 1-1 at the San Siro in Serie A action on Sunday.

Inter took the lead early in the first half through Fredy Guarin but failed to get a second goal and kill the game off and it came back to haunt them as the Blucerchiati scored in the 89th minute through Renan to earn a well deserved point.

Sampdoria were first to come close, when on the fifth minute Manolo Gabbiadini turned and fired a shot just wide of Samir Handanovic’s right hand post from around 20 yards out.

Despite being outplayed in the opening stages of the game Inter took the lead in the 17th minute thanks to Guarin. After a clever piece of interplay between Ricardo Alvarez and Rodrigo Palacio, Alvarez’s cross managed to find Guarin at the back-post and the Colombian smashed it home from close range to put the home side 1-0 up.

The Nerazzurri nearly doubled their lead five minutes later, when a bouncing ball fell fortuitously for Jonathan but the Brazilian wasn’t able to keep the ball down as he blasted over the bar.

The Blucerchiati continued to put pressure on the Inter back-line and again came close on the 25th minute after Nicola Pozzi lost Rolando but he fired his shot straight at Handanovic.

Guarin nearly got his and Inter’s second goal of the game just six minutes into the second half when he fired a shot from just inside the box, only to be denied by the post.

The away side thought they had equalized just two minutes later when Gabbiadini tapped in after a Pozzi cross. However, he was correctly ruled offside and the goal didn’t count.

Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men again came close to equalizing on the 70th minute after Eder fired a free-kick past this Inter wall but Handanovic managed to get down just in time and push the ball wide.

Sampdoria got a deserved equalizer with just one minute of regular time left thanks to a goal from substitute Renan. The Inter defence sat back and Renan fired a long range strike into the bottom left hand corner from around 25 yards.
