Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has dismissed speculation that Celtic striker Giorgios Samaras is a January transfer target.

Reports in the British media had claimed that the 28-year-old Greek international was being targeted by the Biancocelesti, but Tare has insisted that they are not currently interested in the player they tried to sign from Celtic in 2011.

“I have not talked to British newspapers,” he told Lalaziosiamonoi.

“We are focused on the challenge of Hellas Verona this weekend, there is time later for the (transfer) market.

“But Samaras? Currently, he is not a goal of Lazio.”

The former Heerenveen forward joined the Glasgow side from Manchester City in 2008 for £1.2 million and is Celtic’s second longest-serving player in the current squad after captain Scott Brown.

Samaras is in the last six months of his Celtic contact and could leave as a free agent in June.
