Manchester United have reportedly offered defender Alexander Buttner to Genoa in a deal proposed for the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old hasn’t been able to find much first-team play with the Red Devils since joining them from Dutch club Vitesse in 2012 and could be open to a Serie A move this winter if the Grifone are willing to buy him.

According to the official website of Sky Sport Italia market analyst Gianluca Di Marzio, Genoa are monitoring the player and could accept the proposal, though specific details on the offer are still unknown.

Buttner came up through the Ajax and Vitesse youth systems before turning professional with the latter side in 2008 and had a successful four-year run with the team before arriving at Manchester United, where he has two goals in his 19 total appearances for the club thus far.

The left back has appeared for the Dutch Under-19 and Under-20 sides and is hoping to find more time on the pitch in order to earn a call up to the senior Netherlands squad for the 2014 World Cup.
