After Sampdoria’s 4-1 victory over Hellas Verona in the Coppa Italia coach Sinisa Mihajlovic praised his squad players for how they performed when given the opportunity.

Gianluca Sansone, Birkir Bjarnason, Nenad Krsticic and Renan Garcia all scored for the Blucerchiati while Inter loanee Samuele Longo netted for the Gialloblu.

“My applause goes to those who took to the pitch tonight,” said Mihajlovic to the press.

“It was difficult as most of them have played little did not have a full 90 minutes in their legs.

“After we went 2-0 up we let up a bit but after the score changed to 2-1 we played a good game and I am happy.”

The former Yugoslavian international praised the personality of the squad he has taken charge of and explained the changes he is trying to implement at the Marassi.

“These are all good guys here, maybe even too good,” he continued.

“I tried to change our mentality, to get us playing attacking football because without fear you start heading onto the right road.

“There is no formula to winning football matches, the system adapts to the players.

“The fans have to stay close to the players who have demonstrated that they can wear this shirt with pride.”
