Round 15 of the Serie A campaign gave us some more great weekend action. The formation selected is a attacking 4-4-2, with an effort having been made to highlight the performances from some of the leagues lesser known players as well as the established superstars.

At the top of the table we saw Juventus and Roma secure vital wins, Napoli and Inter were both held to draws and Verona returned to winning ways,

AC Milan continued to struggle for consistency being held to a disappointing draw at Livorno whilst Chievo and Sampdoria kept up their run of recent good form following their change of coaches.

But who performed well enough to make it into our Team Of The Week? Please leave a comment and let us know if you feel we have left anyone out.

Rafael – Hellas Verona (3 Team Of The Week appearances)

Made a number of crucial saves to ensure that Verona put an end to their recent run of losses. Has played more than 200 games for his team so is by no means an inexperienced keeper but none the less had adapted well to Serie A football.

Nedad Tomovic – Fiorentina

Created the opening goal for Juan Vargas with a great piece of attacking play. The Serbian is very comfortable on the ball and is often the starting point for the Viola’s moves, bringing the ball out from the back. Was particularly good at forcing Roma’s wide attackers to defend as he pushed forward, especially in the first half.

Daniele Gastaldello – Sampdoria

Sinisa Mihajlovic is still unbeaten since taking over the reigns at Sampdoria. Central to that has been improved defensive performances with Daniele Gastaldello bring a stand out performer. Ensured his side did not concede against a technically gifted Catania attack.

Emiliano Moretti – Torino

The former Valencia man helped his side keep a clean sheet against Lazio. Read the game well and restricted the opponents to very few chances, who were admittedly not at their best. Has a good understanding with  fellow centre back and club captain Kamil Glik

Danilo Avelar – Cagliari

The Brazilian fullback hasn’t always been a regular for his side but had been putting in improved displays over the last 12 months. Defended well in the game against Genoa and was neat and tide in possession.

Gervinho – Roma (3 apps)

Was the Giallorossi’s main attacking threat in their clash with Fiorentina. Always looked to beat his man and never afraid to run with the ball. Was occasionally guilty of making the wrong decision but still had a positive impact on the game, assisting the winning goal.

Arturo Vidal – Juventus (2 apps)

The midfield dynamo was the driving force for the Old Lady again as they ground out a crucial victory against Bologna. Scored a goal and seemed to be everywhere as he helped the attack and defense. A real leader for Antonio Conte’s side. Will be crucial in the coming weeks in the absence of Andrea Pirlo

Bruno Fernandes – Udinese

The nineteen year old Portuguese midfielder marked his breakthrough into the Udinese by scoring a great debut goal, lobbing the keeper from outside the box. Did not look out of place coming up against the more experienced Napoli central midfielders and is certainly an interesting prospect.

Juan Vargas – Fiorentina

A few years ago Juan Vargas was being linked with the likes of Real Madrid. Last season he was struggling to get into the Genoa team. Unable to find a buyer for the player, Fiorentina recalled him from his loan spell and he seems to be finding some of his old form . Scored his fourth goal of the season against Roma and was a threat from his left wing position before drifting out of the game towards the end.

Marco Sau – Cagliari

Scored a late brace to secure a dramatic victory over Genoa, his first goal in particular highlighted his excellent technical abilities. Is beginning to become a regular score for the Sardinians. Probably won’t make the Italy World Cup squad but deserves to be taken into consideration for the central striking understudy role along with the likes of Pablo Osvaldo and Alberto Gilardino

Mario Balotelli – AC Milan (2 apps)

A great all round strikers display from Supermario. Scored the first of his brace with a close range finish and his second was a stunning free kick. Grabbed hold of the game in the second half and drove his side forward, unfortunately for him none of his Rossoneri teammates were at his level.
