Bologna were reportedly close to securing the loan signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lewis Holtby, before Alessandro Diamanti’s move to Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande collapsed.

Diamanti was poised to sign for the Chinese club for €9 million last week, before the deal collapsed at the last minute. The demise had ramifications for Bologna who had drawn up an ambitious list of targets of whom to spend the money on.

Il Corriere di Bologna report that the Rossoblu were keen to take Lewis Holtby and Simone Padoin from Juventus on loan for the remainder of the season.

Now without the money to spend, they have turned their attention to more realistic targets: Massimo Donati of Hellas Verona, Tiberio Guarente of Catania and ex-Inter midfielder Houssine Kharja who is now without a club.

Bologna are in 17th place in the Serie A standing this campaign, one place outside the relegation zone.
