Fabio Capello has extended his contract with the Russian national team until summer 2018.

The former Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid coach took over in the summer of 2012 and has successfully led Russia to the World Cup in Brazil this year, topping their qualification group in the process.

The 67-year-old confirmed a new 4-and-a-half year deal on the RFU’s official website on Friday.

“I am grateful to the President of the RFU and the Minister of Sports for Russia for their confidence in me,” he stated.

“I am very happy to continue working in Russia. We have big plans and I will do everything possible to make our fans happy.”

The deal means Capello will oversee qualification for the 2016 European Championships in France and the 2018 World Cup hosted by Russia.
