Catania today announced they have re-signed former coach Rolando Maran – just three months after dismissing him.

The 50-year-old replaces Luigi De Canio, the man who took over from him in October.

De Canio had been in charge for only 12 games – the last of which, a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Siena, seems to have sealed his fate.

The Rossazzurri released a statement on their official website overnight confirming the re-hiring of Maran.

It said: “Catania announces that it has once again entrusted with the task of technical management of the first team to Mr Rolando Maran, formerly at the helm of the Rossazzurri last season and during the first eight matches of this season.”

The statement also confirmed that Christian Maraner would be back as assistant coach, replacing Roberto Rizzo, who had been in the role under De Canio.

Catania currently sit bottom of Serie A, level with Livorno on 13 points.
