Recently sacked Lazio coach Vladimir Petkovic has decided to sue the club for damages, as the club decided to replace him with Edoardo Reja prior to the end of his contract.

The board members based their decision on the fact that Petkovic signed a contract with the Swiss Football Association to coach the country’s national team, even though the contract is not supposed to come into force until after the Sarajev0-born specialist completes his employment obligations for the Biancocelesti.

“We’ll impound the decision in the opportune legal arenas, because we consider it profoundly unjust,” Petkovic’s lawyer Paco D’Onofrio told Sky Sport Italia.

“The statement released by Lazio is unique, as it doesn’t actually indicate the rule he is supposed to have broken during negotiations with the Swiss Federation.

“President of the Coaches’ Association Renzo Ulivieri also stated this week that Petkovic did not violate any regulation.

Talks between both sides over Petkovic’s right to remain at Lazio began before the turn of the new year, however it was Reja who led the team’s practices before negotiations were over.

“We tried to find a mutual consent solution so as not to damage the Coach’s image, as we could not accept people claiming he had broken the rules,” D’Onfrio said.

“We would’ve been happy to end this rapport with a handshake and a relaxed atmosphere, but we could not accept aspersions cast on Petkovic’s behaviour.”

The lawyer made it clear that his client will take all legal actions necessary to at least get the wages he was supposed until June 30, equivalent to  €600,000.
