Genoa boss Gian Piero Gasperini admits that his team’s match against Fiorentina on Sunday will be a challenging one despite the Viola’s current injury problems.

The Grifone, who are coming off of an impressive 1-0 win over Inter on January 19, will have new signings Nicolas Burdisso and Marco Motta available in their line up to help strengthen their defence, while the Gigliati will be missing key attacking players Borja Valero, Giuseppe Rossi and Mario Gomez, though Alessandro Matri is expected to be fit enough to play again.

Gasperini spoke about the upcoming away game at his pre-match press conference on Saturday and insisted that Genoa are satisfied with their current position in the Serie A standings.

“Tomorrow we are facing a very strong side like Fiorentina,” said the tactician.

“They play beautiful and efficient football that is very technical, and therefore difficult for opponents to break down.

“It will take another great achievement from us after beating Inter. They are missing some players, but that doesn’t reduce the quality of their squad.

“We have five defenders available now and I can think about new tactical solutions.

“Genoa are in a strong position in the table and I have to say we are very satisfied with what we’ve achieved so far. Now we have a new objective: to measure ourselves up against the best teams and see how we fare.”
