Genoa captain Daniele Portanova is determined to stay with the club until he retires from the game.

Despite rumours that the Grifone have tried to offload the 35-year-old, both parties have issued statements indicating that he will continue his career at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Portanova’s official Twitter feed carried a message of support for Rossoblu supporters.

“The fans have made me fall in love with this shirt,” the defender Tweeted. “I will stay in Genoa until the end of my career and will always fight when given the opportunity”

Meanwhile, the Grifone’s website published an official statement from the club to render any transfer rumours moot.

“Genoa CFC categorically denies having dealing with the sale of team captain Daniele Portanova.

The club, in full agreement with the technical staff, is unwilling to consider proposals from other clubs to acquire him.”

Portanova joined Genoa last season, and was named captain for the this season. However, striker Alberto Gilardino has assumed the role of team captain in the team’s recent fixtures.
