Italy have reportedly contacted the Spanish Football Federation and requested that their scheduled friendly for March 2014 be cancelled.

According to Marca, Italy coach Cesare Prandelli does not feel the need to play the current European and World champions for a fourth time in three years.

The RSFF are said to want to discuss the matter with national team coach Vicente Del Bosque before returning to the FIGC with a decision on whether to cancel the game or not.

The game was intended as one of the Azzurri’s World Cup warm-up matches before they go to Brazil to face England, Uruguay and Costa Rica in their group matches.

Both Italy and Spain qualified for the 2014 World Cup by topping their respective qualification groups.
