Juventus and Fiorentina are set to go head-to-head in the race to sign young Atalanta midfielder Daniele Baselli.

The Brescia native is an Italian Under-21 international, having also played for his country at Under-18 and Under-19 level, and is considered to be one of the brightest prospects in the Italian game.

According to Tuttosport, Baselli has been targeted by the Viola as a replacement for Chilean veteran David Pizarro and talks between the Gigliati and la Dea have intensified in recent weeks, while the terms of any agreement are yet to be defined.

The Bianconeri are unlikely to stand by and watch as the talented midfield man is snapped up by their bitter rivals, and are reportedly ready to battle for the signature of the youngster before the close of the transfer window on January 31.

Orobici director general Pierpaolo Marino has already stated that the player will cost around €12 million, and la Vecchia Signora keen to secure him on a co-ownership deal, before loaning him back to the Bergamo-based side until June.

Baselli is a product of the Atalanta youth system, and is in his debut season in Serie A having returned to the club in the summer from Serie B side Cittadella, with whom he spent two terms.

He has started on three occasions for the Nerazzurri so far this campaign, coming on from the bench a further nine times.
